Spinetinglers Book of the Year Competition

All books sent to us for review will automatically be entered into the Book of the Year competition. We will select the book, which in our opinion is the best, and this book will be named Spinetinglers Book of the Year.

The winner of the Book of the Year competition will receive a certificate to commemorate their achievement and £100. Prize money is in GBP but winners will be paid the equivalent amount in their local currency.

Your review will be uploaded to all major online book retailers, making them aware that this is Book of the Year. Those sites which already carry your review we will contact and ask them to edit the review so that it clearly states ‘Spinetinglers Book of the Year’.

As the Book of the Year winner you will get your own dedicated e-zine, which will feature a competition giving members a chance to win a copy of the book. Our news sections and social networking sites will also carry the news of your win.

To enter all you have to do is send a copy of your book and a cover letter to:

Spinetinglers Monthly Competition

Join the best authors of dark fiction, and enter the Spinetinglers monthly short story competition!

Spinetinglers.co.uk publishes five new stories every month, the best of which will be compiled in our annual Spinetinglers Anthology. Also, each winning author wins a cash prize. The best news of all: absolutely no entry fee!

The prizes are as follows:

First Place – £100

Second Place £50

Third, fourth and fifth place – £25 each

Prize money is in GBP but winners will be paid the equivalent amount in their local currency.
To enter our competition, simply submit your story here or email it to lauren@spinetinglers.co.uk

We would ask that you stick to the following guidelines:

(1) We would ask you to keep your stories under 5,000 words if possible. If you go a bit over that is okay. No story will be rejected because it happens to be 5,100 words.

(2) Please make sure that you read through your story carefully before submitting it. Check for spelling mistakes and grammatical errors.

Stories with quite a few mistakes will be automatically rejected.

(3) Your story can be violent or leaning towards erotica but please nothing too explicit. Again anything too gratuitous may automatically be rejected. All stories will be treated equally, we are not asking for bios or previous publishing experience. We want each story to stand on its own merit no matter what the writer’s previous experience. We have no rules regarding content; we don’t believe that a spinetingling story needs to conform to any specific formula.

A spinetingler doesn’t have to be macabre and morose; it can be light-hearted, or even uplifting. It may be filled with ghosts or ghouls, possessions or poltergeists, even merely the suggestion of something supernatural. Anything is acceptable. We encourage you to let your imagination run wild, and come up with a tale that will make our spine tingle.
